New WIX design provides increased protection from contaminants

WIX Filters has announced five new part numbers of polyurethane inner safety air filters for tractor, loader and excavation equipment-type applications. Part numbers 46490, 42985, 46672, 46663, and 42807 are designed for a variety of models for manufacturers including Bobcat, Case, Caterpillar, John Deere, Komatsu, and Kubota.

The new WIX polyurethane inner safety air filters feature heat seamed media, eliminating the metal clip from previous product generations. In addition, the tall seal area on the new filters creates a superior fit with the original equipment housing.

“By rethinking the design and manufacturing process of our polyurethane inner safety air filters, we have increased the filter quality and function, while ensuring a perfect fit between the outer and inner filtration elements,” said Bill Stamey, heavy duty product engineering manager for WIX Filters.

“The primary purpose of an inner air filter is to keep dirt and other contaminants from entering the air intake system of the engine while the outer air filter is being serviced; by creating tighter seals both in the filter itself and between the filter and the housing we have increased the protection provided by this filter,” Stamey said.

Manufacturers generally recommend replacement of the inner element every third time the outer filter is replaced. WIX recommends technicians reference the vehicle user manual for specific maintenance guidelines.
