Anheuser-Busch Named ‘2015 Green Fleet of the Year’ by WIX® Filters, Fleet Owner Magazine

Wednesday, 06 May 2015

WIX® Filters, a global manufacturer of filtration products, and Fleet Owner, a Penton publication for commercial trucking fleet executives, named Anheuser-Busch the “2015 Green Fleet of the Year” at the Alternative Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo today in Dallas.

Anheuser-Busch’s U.S. sustainability efforts extend from “Seed to Sip,” focusing on all areas of operations. From growing barley with less water to adding watersheds in cities where breweries are located, the program is designed to demonstrate Anheuser-Busch’s commitment to continued sustainability.

This commitment also extends to logistics and transportation, where the company has set a goal to reduce carbon emissions by 15 percent by the end of 2017. Converting its entire Houston operation to compressed natural gas tractors last fall was a major step toward meeting this objective.

“The next generation CNG engine technology paired with support from state incentive programs contributed to our ability to take such a significant step in fully converting our Houston fleet,” said James Sembrot, senior director-transportation for Anheuser-Busch, told Fleet Owner magazine. “We have many logistics-related activities underway to reduce that environmental impact. Within transportation, the move to compressed natural gas is one of those.”

In just the third quarter of 2014, the fleet shipped 17 million cases of beer, so the impact of converting these vehicles to natural gas is significant. Houston’s 66 tractors are expected to be fully deployed in the second quarter of this year and are estimated to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 2,000 tons per year. Houston is the first full facility conversion, but Anheuser-Busch is also exploring facilities in St. Louis, Mo., and Columbus, Ohio.

“It’s great to see a company as large as Anheuser-Busch making significant strides in corporate sustainability,” said Jennifer Gibson, brand manager for WIX Filters. “This award is designed to recognize companies using green technologies to reduce energy consumption and environmental impact at every level, including truck fleets. The Houston fleet is a strong first step toward Anheuser-Busch’s green transportation initiatives and a perfect fit as our ninth annual Green Fleet of the Year honoree.”

As part of the award, WIX will conduct a comprehensive fleet assessment designed to reduce business costs for Anheuser-Busch and also supply the company with its heavy duty oil filters designed for over-the-road applications.
