| Jimmie Johnson won his third NASCAR NEXTEL Cup WIX Filters Lap Leader Award this season in the Citizens Bank 400 on June 17. He led 56 laps at Michigan International Speedway to clinch the award, which placed him in a tie for second place with Tony Stewart in this year’s point standings.
With four wins this season, Jeff Gordon holds a one win lead over Stewart and Johnson for the year-end WIX Filters Lap Leader Award $75,000 prize and the series title.
In Busch Series competition, Brad Coleman claimed his second WIX Filters Lap Leader Award in 2007 by leading three times for 36 laps en route to a second place finish in the Meijer 300 last weekend at Kentucky Speedway.
“Winning the WIX award is a big accomplishment,” said Coleman, who is the only Raybestos® Rookie to earn the Lap Leader Award more than once this season. “I’m also happy because it’s my first top five.”
