| Busch, Wallace, Skinner Earn WIX Filters Lap Leader Awards at Texas Motor Speedway
Jeff Gordon clinched his second WIX Filters Lap Leader Award title with two NASCAR NEXTEL Cup races still remaining this season. The WIX Filters Lap Leader Award title is presented to the driver who wins the most weekly Lap Leader Awards throughout the season, and with a three-point lead over two-time defending WIX Filters Lap Leader Award champion Tony Stewart, no driver can surpass Gordon’s eight weekly WIX Filters Lap Leader Awards.
Gordon, who won his first WIX Filters Lap Leader title in 2004, will receive his series title and $75,000 prize at the NEXTEL Cup banquet in December.
The WIX Filters Lap Leader Award winners at Texas Motor Speedway during the November 2-4 NASCAR events were Kyle Busch (NEXTEL Cup), Mike Wallace (BUSCH) and Mike Skinner (Craftsmen Truck).
Busch earned his second NASCAR NEXTEL Cup WIX Filters Lap Leader Award of the season at Texas Motor Speedway on November 4. He led the field six times for 153 laps en route to a fourth-place finish in the Dickies 500.
In Busch Series competition, Wallace won his sixth WIX Filters Lap Leader Award in 2007 by leading one lap in the O’Reilly Challenge at Texas Motor Speedway on November 3. With two Busch Series races remaining this season, Wallace continues to lead the point standings with six wins in 2007. Wallace, who grew his lead over challenger Jason Leffler to two points, will look to clinch the Busch Series WIX Filters Lap Leader Award title this weekend at Phoenix International Speedway.
Skinner earned his ninth WIX Filters Lap Leader Award of the season last weekend by leading the field twice for 40 laps in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Silverado 350K. Skinner’s win at Texas Motor Speedway extended his lead to two points over Ron Hornaday Jr., who has won seven Lap Leader Awards this season. Skinner can clinch his third consecutive Craftsmen Truck Series WIX Filters Lap Leader Award title this weekend in Phoenix.
