Hornaday and Defending WIX Filters Lap Leader champion Skinner battle it out for Craftsman Truck Lap Leader title this weekend at Miami-Homestead Speedway

Mike Wallace clinched his first WIX Filters Lap Leader Award title with one race remaining in the 2007 NASCAR Busch Series. The WIX Filters Lap Leader Award title is presented to the driver who wins the most weekly Lap Leader Awards throughout the season, and with a two-point lead over the closest competitor, no driver will be able to eclipse Wallace’s six weekly WIX Filters Lap Leader Awards.

Wallace will receive his series title and $20,000 prize at the Busch Series banquet in December.

The WIX Filters Lap Leader Award winners at Phoenix International Raceway during the November 9-11 NASCAR events were Martin Truex Jr. (NEXTEL Cup), Scott Wimmer (Busch) and Ron Hornaday Jr. (Craftsman Truck).

Hornaday Jr. earned his eighth WIX Filters Lap Leader Award of the season by leading 19 laps in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Casino Arizona 150. Hornaday Jr.’s win at Phoenix International Raceway tightened the margin between him and two-time defending champion Mike Skinner, who has won nine Lap Leader Awards this season. The recipient of the Craftsman Truck Series WIX Filters Lap Leader Award title will be decided this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Truex Jr. won his second NASCAR NEXTEL Cup WIX Filters Lap Leader Award of the season by leading the field three times for 72 laps en route to a seventh-place finish in the Checker Auto Parts 500. Jeff Gordon clinched the 2007 WIX Filters Lap Leader Award title last week after pulling away from the competition with eight weekly WIX Filters Lap Leader Awards.

In Busch Series competition, Wimmer earned his third WIX Filters Lap Leader Award in 2007 by leading two laps in the Arizona Travel 200.

“I’ve got to thank WIX for all they do,” said Wimmer after earning his Lap Leader Award at Phoenix International Raceway. “It’s good to win an award like that.”

The WIX Filters Lap Leader Award is part of Affinia Group’s Motorsports program, which includes WIX Filters as the number one filter in NASCAR and an exclusive NASCAR Performance Product, the Raybestos Rookie of the Year Award and Raybestos® brand brakes as the Official Brakes of NASCAR.

The WIX Filters Lap Leader Award is presented to the driver who leads the most laps during each race in NASCAR’s NEXTEL Cup, Busch and Craftsman Truck racing series. The award includes a cash prize presented to the winning driver during a ceremony before the next race and an end-of-year payout and trophy for the driver who earns the most WIX Filters Lap Leader awards over the course of the entire season. Cash awards for the end-of-year honor are: $75,000 for the NEXTEL Cup Series; $20,000 for the Busch Series; and, $10,000 for the Craftsman Truck Series.

In order to be eligible for the WIX Filters Lap Leader Award for a single event, drivers and teams in each series must run the WIX Filters decal on the front fender and use WIX oil or air filters in their vehicles. Additionally, for any year-end payout, teams must run the decal on the front fender for every race they participate in, with an allowance for one race, and they must always use WIX oil or air filters.
