WIX: STRIKING THE RIGHT BALANCE

Balanced filter performance is key for protecting the life of your engine over time. Genuine WIX oil filters strike the right balance, which allows the media to filter out and hold contaminants throughout the OE-recommended service cycle between oil and filter changes. The right balance provides the best, most consistent filtration over the life of the filter.

IF EFFICIENCY IS TOO HIGH

Some filter brands focus too much on high efficiency, which allows contaminants to fill up the filter prematurely in its lifecycle. This will trigger the bypass valve to open too soon and allow unfiltered oil to flow through your engine, causing serious damage over time.

IF CAPACITY IS TOO HIGH

Filter brands that maximize filter capacity can allow the filter media to hold more contaminants, but this may be at the expense of initial efficiency. Over time, as contaminants fill up the media, there will be a decrease in efficiency and the rate of pressure drop.

IF PRESSURE DROP IS TOO HIGH

Increasing the rate of the pressure drop can trigger the bypass valve sooner, halting filtration entirely. Increased pressure drop supports greater efficiency (filtering out more contaminants), but too much pressure drop can fill up the filter media faster than intended, reducing filter service life.
